How to apply Bordeaux mixture? Manufacturing process

It is generally accepted that Bordeaux mixture, the manufacture and application of which will be discussed in this article, was invented by accident. French viticulturist accidentally mixed blue vitriol and lime. Throwing away the resulting mixture was a pity, and he sprayed her vineyard against mildew (downy mildew), and the result amazed him. How to use Bordeaux mixture correctly?

Bordeaux mixture: production and application

Making a Bordeaux mixture

Bordeaux liquid is actively used against many fungal and bacterial diseases. It belongs to fungicidal means of protective, contact action. The mixture is able to suppress the harmful effects of fungi. The main role is played by copper ions, and lime softens its dangerous effect and helps to fix the agent on plants for 25-30 days. The duration of the drug depends on the correct preparation of the solution and the quality of the lime.

Bordeaux liquid is usually used in two ways:

First. Spraying fruit trees in early spring, while the buds have not yet blossomed. A 3% solution is used.
Second . Processing plantings during the growing season, using a 1% solution.

Bordeaux liquid is prepared independently from a dry mixture. In order to cook it, you need to take a container made of glass, clay, wood or plastic, but not metal. To make a 1% solution with a volume of 1 liter, copper sulfate powder (100 grams) is taken, which must be dissolved in a small amount of hot water (+50 degrees), then water is added and brought to a 9-liter volume.

In a separate container, you need to dissolve in a small amount of water no more than 150 grams of lime, to the state of sour cream. Then, gradually adding water, bring to a volume of one liter. Copper sulphate is carefully poured into the resulting liquid, which should resemble milk. The drug can only be used as a solution. Usually, a 1% or 3% concentration is used. Before use, Bordeaux liquid must be filtered several times. It is important to remember that it cannot be used in conjunction with other means (soap solution, chemicals). Also, do not add water to an already prepared liquid.

How to use Bordeaux mixture correctly?

Before use, it is recommended to check the resulting liquid for a chemical reaction. To do this, you need to lower a metal object (nail, knife blade, wire) into the resulting mixture. If the solution is prepared in violation, a reddish coating will remain on the subject. Consequently, the liquid contains an excessive amount of copper sulfate, which is dangerous for plants - it can burn them. In order to secure the mixture, you need to add milk of lime, to the desired concentration.

The main advantages of the tool include:

  • As a prophylactic, it protects plants from fungal diseases (scab, various rot, late blight, spotting, curliness, rust) for a long time.
  • The calcium contained in the solution helps to compensate for its deficiency in the area.
  • Availability of the drug.

But, at the same time, there are some disadvantages when using the tool:

  • Drying of the bark after treatment may be observed, which does not affect the plants in the best way.
  • As a pesticide, it can be dangerous to humans.

At the time of preparation of the liquid, it is necessary to use protective equipment: rubber gloves, a bathrobe, a gauze bandage. Do not smoke, eat or drink during processing. So Bordeaux mixture, production and application which was discussed in this article, is simply necessary to preserve the crop.
